I've written about the false economies of austerity before but here is a corker of an example:

this winter, to save money, frontline NHS staff are having to pay for their covid jabs, at a time when staff absences due to sickness are already too high...

Its a classic bit of costs-based policy making with no appreciation of the resulting (higher) costs.

Ir sums up what's wrong with decision makers myopic obsession with immediate cost(s).
