Martin Kettle uses the crisis in prisons as an example of a wider crisis of governance across the country... and to draw out one specific issue (and use a phrase he doesn't), the various crises are excavated by the problem of a rigid Treasury oversight, which 'know the cost of everything & the value of nothing'.

This is forcing departments into a constant crisis management & constraining any forward planning to actually resolve crises!

Its idiocy!

Some time ago I listened to Ali Kadri on MAK Capitalism and his ideas about capitalists producing waste for society means more profit for them, and the role of war in this process, intrigued me. The growing amount of money and assets of the 1%, NATO's 5% and ReArm Europe, and austerity for the rest of us (meaning premature death for us) are all related.

🧵1/2: It's legally incomprehensible the #UK#SupremeCourt should have upheld the government's decision to outlaw #PalestineAction as a #terrorist organisation: it's unenforceable. I don't believe the chilling effect will work & the arrest of 25 citizens holding signs today proves it. There are too many people alienated by #Labour's hostile & #austerity policies who have a lot of time on their hands & nothing left to lose, incl. 1000s of #pensioners screwed over by the #winterfuel payment cuts

More than 1 million people in the European Union died from avoidable causes in 2022, according to new data from a Eurostats report. Of these, over 386,000 deaths were attributed to diseases treatable with quality healthcare, while at least 725,000 could have been prevented through effective public health interventions.

They’ll see vets lose their food stamp benefits, %rates go⬆️bc of the $Ts the bill adds to the debt.

What kind of ppl want to close rural hospitals, vets..?
