And it's cool that you can create something once and then an unlimited number of people can use it an unlimited number of times, and it's interactive, so it might do something different for each person even if they don't modify it. And they can modify it too.

@alcinnz I love niche linux CLI apps, very particular solves for uncommon needs

like ALASS to sync subtitle files with the audio track of your video file, or yt-dlp with its whole instruction booklet of command-line options

@alcinnz I love the challenges of dealing with enterprise scale code. It adds an extra layer of difficulty that challenges your intuition. The same pattern works perfectly in one place and causes an outage in another.

I like the analogy of cooking and writing recipes. You have to know how to scale the recipe so you can make a banquet, a meal, or just a snack. And every user has different allergies and preferences.

@alcinnz You know how people dream of being a LEGO master builder, with an endless supply of building blocks to make their ideas reality? That's been my life since I got a VIC-20 in 1984. And I do get paid for it, too.

@alcinnz the main thing that drives me is solving problems and processes that help (clients) do their work.
Unfortunately that seem less important with tech fascination/hype chasing, budget and project plans and......

@alcinnz I like seeing how many people who actually care about the things they build. With a UBI, I seriously believe that we'd see an explosion in really cool stuff that helps the world, far beyond what we see as "tech" today.

@alcinnz I like making things. It's intellectually stimulating to write software, make scripts to automate things, and to have useful machines doing useful things. I like to draw -- and digital art is a whole different beast from analog art, but it's also more accessible in a bunch of ways. I'm not always good at this, but i also like helping people, and there's so much tech in the world today that everybody pretty much needs help all the bloody time.
