#FightLikeAnAnimal podcast Group Mind pt. 6: Suburban Holy War

Argues that since 60s, the west/global north lives post-materially: society assumes material needs (food, shelter, etc) will be met, so focus shifts to self-expression, across the political spectrum. This has lead to increasingly diversified niche interest groups. Argues thst political appeals to broad categories (e.g. women, working class) not as effective as taking a niche interest + network approach (e.g. furry, tennis)

Basically: that people wanting to effect political change should learn from marketers and reject broad groups.

Not sure I fully agree, but I am instrumentally inspired.

@douginamug my way to rephrase would be "just be helpful to specific people"

@rosano yeah, when you boil off the jargon, none of this stuff is mind blowing.

Although I'd add "go to people you wouldn't normally".
