#Mastodharma ch2
I've heard this chapter's basic point summarized many times, but it felt touching to actually read this part myself.
There was this one point that especially struck me: that those who "even with distracted minds" have "offered a single flower" are still on the Path... Because that's what it often is like. There's comfort in knowing that the point is to just keep going. Even when the path goes winding around and about, it still always keeps spiraling inward, somehow.
@lumo The spiral inward isn't a straight path, and it's okay if we loop and falter
@Taweret Yeah exactly, and there's this kind of humblenesss of, how could we even know if we were going straight anyway? If we knew where we are going, we'd be there already.
The Road goes ever on and on, but there's comfort in knowing that we are all going to make it
@Taweret I have to confess I had a hard time with this chapter moreso than the last chapter.
It might have been the post-ECT stuff (I had one yesterday) maybe I need to revisit the Introduction, I still plan to watch that video about context.
another part was I was just simply distracted today (Also anxious which probably didn't help, though I did try some grounding techniques) so I had to do in chunks over the course of like.... 4 hours?
Anyway I do hope it gets a little easier to understand next chapter, though if it doesn't, I know I can always revisit it, and hey, at least I'm trying this with other people
@lapis totally understandable. ch 2 is a big shift and it can feel overwhelming. the repetition, the symbolism, the sudden change in tone from the earlier teachings it's a lot to process ( especially when your nervous system is already doing heavy lifting)
but the fact that you did it even in chunks, even with distraction and anxiety in the mix, that’s real commitment. that's practice. the Buddha literally says in later chapters that offering even a single verse with sincerity is meaningful
It will get easier in places (parables next chapter) and in others, it might stay weird and dense and that’s okay too. There's no rush to 'get it.' just showing up with others and letting it settle over time is beautiful practice
You're doing great! and I'm really glad you’re part of this
