Holy shit, these numbers. "Of the approximately 4 million non-duplicate works that Anthropic downloaded, around 2.5 million were written in languages other than English. Most of those 2.5 million non-English works were unregistered. In addition, many of the 1.5 million non-duplicate English works were not registered."
This is seriously making me think I should register my translations (they were in LibGen). Would really be nice if copyright registration was automatic and not this shit show.
Folks, if you're mad about this settlement being unjust (and you should be & it is) I encourage you to keep the heat on with social pressure re: not using AI but *also* register your copyrights.
These companies are gonna keep stealing, there are lots of lawsuits, and this will keep going for a while.
