Both my worldwide friends and surprisingly many of my US friends rather casually assume that many more Americans have health insurance than actually do.

About 20% of Americans have zero insurance. About 33% are significantly under-insured, and another 10% at any given time experience insurance breaks longer than a month.

In the US, health insurance is yet another privilege denied to significant parts of the population.

@GeePawHill here's a thought, how about all US citizens get the same level of and access to care congress has granted to themselves?

I know, too radical an idea. I'll see myself out.

@GeePawHill

Personal health is considered a commodity here. And a personal failure when you don't have health, or insurance. Few get a chance to 'invest' in it from the-go.

@GeePawHill you are making me wonder if I should have a talk with my kids about how difficult it is having all of the things they have. Don't want to paint myself as a hero. Want them to understand it is not something everyone just has.

I grew up with lots of disadvantaged kids. I understand a lot of people find themselves short of resources. Or as another stated, you live someplace where establishing care is difficult.

I mean, I have it I guess. Depending on where you live though, good luck "establishing care".

@GeePawHill

This is why the solution is medical care for everyone.

I don't want insurance. I want care when I'm sick or injured.

Insurance is worth exactly zero dollars to me.

@GeePawHill
That's all true. Plus having insurance doesn't even mean you can afford or will receive needed care
