Watching Cold Crash Pictures defence of Gone With the Wind, as a pointed satire of confederate apologetics (part 2);

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDkwGQFLcjE

It occurs to me that we could be seeing a reworking of the history depicted, on a larger geographical canvas. Let me unpack that a bit.

In this version, Gone With the WTO, the US has decided it wants to secede from the world trade system it helped to build.

But just as the Confederacy didn't have the factories, coal and ships to hold the line against the Yankees, the US doesn't have the capacity to prevail against its chosen equivalent of the Yankees. Mainly China, who have built a huge manufacturing base, the energy sources, etc, even as the US allowed theirs to decline.

So what options does a US peace movement have?

Come to think of it, what options do we have as an international peace movement?

Because the multiple wars raging around the world are horrific in themselves, and worth working to end. But they're also hiking up tensions in a world system already stressed and panicked by a series of environmental and economic shocks.

We're not in a great place as a highly interdependent human culture. Our differences seem to be dividing us, rather than enriching us. How can we turn this around?

Maybe Gone With the Wind and its take on US civil war history has something to teach us about that? I'll keeping watching Serge's video and see if he offers any insights.
