It's urgent to stop playing The Sims franchise. All of it. NOW.

And even more so, once EA implements the AI they've been talking about, as well as Project Rene's launch which is going to be multiplayer and multiplatform (hence online and in your smartphone). But really, start now. Run don't walk.
It's a matter of personal safety at this point.

Excerpt from the linked Reuters article :
"Sept 26 (Reuters) - Electronic Arts (EA.O), the videogame publisher behind titles such as "FC" and "Battlefield", is in advanced talks to go private at a valuation of roughly $50 billion, according to sources familiar with the matter.
A group of investors including private equity firm Silver Lake, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners could unveil a deal for the publisher as soon as next week, the sources said on Friday. If it goes through, the deal would mark the largest ever leveraged buyout in history."

Setting aside the fact that this is a franchise that historically has been relatively good to a number of minorities (LGBT, PoCs, non-Christian religions...) rarely represented in most AAA videogames, and that you can kiss that kind of representation goodbye, it's going to be a proper f*cking nightmare. JARED KUSHNER.

Get the f*ck out of this franchise. No life simulation is worth risking your actual life.

Think about what you do in your saves, who you recreate, what mods you install (...you know who you are), what comments you leave, what kind of lots you get from the Gallery...

Once the next Sims projects are live, think about who you're going to be in multiplayer with, what you're going to say in chat, what data will be accessed on your phone, what personal photos of loved ones and/or real life places you're going to upload to create a family member or the couch in your living room...

This is very much something on the same level as TikTok's new management. There's a very intentional targeting going on here.

A few years ago, I said that videogames' chats (including on discord) were one of the safest places on Earth to organize, because filters usually care about sex and profanity, not politics. They're also by their very nature quite ephemeral, in particular voice chats. Clearly I'm not the only one who noticed.

The sale is confirmed, I don't know about you but I'm uninstalling the EA app.
