The Irish NCT should only be testing emissions. The rest of it is just to punish people for owning older cars.

Show us the studies that demonstrate that all of this theater is preventing injury and accidents.

The only study I can find is a meta-study showing that there are no studies internationally demonstrating that there is any non-compromised evidence of effectiveness: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8296297/ #Mastodaoine #RoadSafety

@relistan so you suggest that driving cars on bald tyres with misaligned suspension have no relation to safety?

@don_k4rlos I'm saying that a national program to inspect them is not demonstrably improving safety. If it were, we'd be able to see the numbers.

@relistan I'm old enough to remember state of cars on the road before we rolled it out.

And an NCT is usually the only time more cars get taken to a garage.

I understand that in some US states a smog/emissions check is all that's needed, but most folks here won't even service a car unless its for The Test.

@cianhan I've lived here for 10 years and am a citizen, this is home. I also know you can take your car to the garage at any time. I have an older can and it goes sometimes more than once a year to have something worked on. There is also no demonstrable improvement in road safety before and after the test was implemented that can be aligned with the testing regime. If there were, we should have the data, and it should be easy to justify.

@relistan The problem is that without it, many carowners wouldn't even do basic servicing, or replace a tyre.
