Coincidence Engine One: Universal People’s Republic Time (2008) by [The User]. Color photo of an art installation with twelve hundred identical small white electric battery-powered alarm clocks with white faces, black dials and hands. The clocks are tightly stacked on more than 25 small, curved and narrow steps cut into a tall custom designed C-curved white stand which is much wider at its base than at the final step which forms its open top. Starting at floor level, each step is set back a small distance — about the same as the width of the each step — creating a curved wall of clocks sloping up and away from the viewer. The clocks are brilliantly lit from above, inviting a single viewer to step into the open side of the stand to feel surrounded by the many small clocks, watch the second hands move in near unison, and feel immersed in their nearly synchronized sound. [The User] is an art collective comprised of architect and installation artist [Thomas McIntosh](http://www.undefine.ca/en/artists/thomas-mcintosh/), and composer and sound artist Emmanuel Madan.
