How to easily switch your PC from Windows to #Linux Mint - for free https://zdnet.com/article/how-to-easily-switch-your-pc-from-windows-to-linux-for-free/ by @sjvn

With #Windows10 about to retire to the big bit farm in the sky, now's an ideal time to give Linux Mint a try.

How to easily switch your PC from Windows to Linux Mint - for free

I've used many Linux distros over the years, and this is the one I recommend the most. Here's why and how to try it.

@sjvn i switched last month (after 8 years of linux abstinence on private devices) and have to say installation has become easier but configuring is still a mess for non tech savvy users
I would only suggest it to my tech friends but not to my parents

For me the biggest pain point was the font size on high resolution screen (at least with cinnamon desktop)
Scaling and actual size is tough it seems that linux only ui tools tend to ignore system settings
Screen scaling alone sometimes works sometimes not
Using "fractional" scaling like 150% was also not out of the box
Funny was when I increased font size the window button symbols where still tiny because they are images and not font

I saw a lot of lists what does linux better than windows but configuring your desktop windows is the clear winner (but I never had to configure a mac so maybe there is a contender) and so far ui/ux is also worse on linux only ui tools

There were also other problems like my qnap nas does not support a linux client since Ubuntu 16 so I had to configure it on my own

I am a developer and system test automation engineer but not a days admin and for the family pc I habe to become one which is annoying but there is no alternative which is better

@EndorNim If you have an x86 based MacBook Pro, these instructions will work with it as well. That said, if your MacBook has a T2 chip in it, you'll face far more trouble than it's worth. T2 does not play well with Linux. To see if your MacBook has one check: https://support.apple.com/en-us/103265

Curious. I wonder why the experience is SO different when it comes to T2 Macbooks in comparison to Mac Minis. Because I've moved over two 2018 Mac Minis to Linux with no issues... T2linux. Org is a big help for these machines.
