European Commission
@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu  ·  activity timestamp 3 days ago

Today we are presenting our proposals to the Council to suspend trade concessions with Israel and to place sanctions on extremist ministers of the Israeli government and on violent settlers.

The horrific events taking place in Gaza on a daily basis must stop. There needs to be an immediate ceasefire, unrestrained access for all humanitarian aid, and the release of all hostages held by Hamas.

Press release: link.europa.eu/nx3DrG

A blue graphic titled "PROPOSALS TO THE COUNCIL" in white and yellow text.

The text lists proposals regarding the EU's relationship with Israel:

Suspension of certain trade-related provisions of the Association Agreement between the EU and Israel.

Sanctions against Hamas, extremist ministers of the Israeli government and violent settlers.

The graphic also states: "We are also putting on hold bilateral support to Israel, with the exception of support to civil society and Yad Vashem."

The logo for the European Commission is in the bottom right corner.

@EUCommission They are now putting this forward to calm down activists in Europe. They will keep putting off meaningful action until there are no Gazan's left alive and the west bank is mostly annexed. But they are caving to pressure, which is why we must keep the heat up. Somewhere in your city there is a protest this week for a free Palestine. Join them!

@EUCommission
Sooooo... "extremist ministers" does that include the ones facing war crimes charges? Or only the non house trained, cartoonish ones?
Also trade "concessions"? You're taking their Tesco Club cards away?

This is embarrassing in its lateness and its weakness. There are EU politicians that should be in the Hague next to Netanyahu for this.

Illegal settlement must be sanctioned. It is by definition "violent".

At least if you care about international law.

Oh, wait…

Precisely. The "non-violent" settler is a myth. Their presence alone, protected by that violent infrastructure, enables the displacement of Palestinians, seizes resources, and makes a viable Palestinian state impossible. It's a slow-moving crime against people.
