Hot take: Kobo should drop their proprietary Nickel UI and embrace KOReader.

Kobo’s main appeal is its support for ePubs you can sideload. If they embraced the openness of KOReader and made it a first class citizen while contributing to it, it would be an absolute killer of a product!

@thibaultamartin KOReaders interface needs a lot of work to be approachable for most people i think.

Plato is a lot nicer, even if doesn't have as many features: https://github.com/baskerville/plato/ 😃

@thibaultamartin one thing I like about Kobo is you can do this:
https://komga.org/docs/guides/kobo/

Read with Kobo | Komga

The Kobo integration is based on the native Kobo Sync capability, where your Kobo eReader will sync to a Komga server instead of the official Kobo servers.

@escapistes I’m heavily leaning towards BookLore once I have my setup sorted out, since I’m more of an EPUB person :)

They support both impersonating the official Kobo book store, or relying on KOReader
