We have a brand new (2 months old) #Volkswagen #ID3 car and I have very few positive things to say about it. The only upside is that it’s an #EV.

Other than that you need to send an absurd amount of data to VW, they accept the policies for you at the dealership, every setting (like AC) is in 3 submenus in a giant iPad on the dashboard. The few things not in the iPad are tactile button with only dim visual feedback.

And now the charging lid is stuck. A common problem on those stupid €35K cars.

I already didn’t like cars but this one is absurdly bad.

@thibaultamartin I'm sorry that you are having troubles :(

Our Toyota bZ4X has been a really (honestly, surprisingly) smooth experience mostly for the reasons you mention, but opposite: chonky big buttons, reasonable settings. One YouTube reviewer even mentions that from the *inside* there is barely anything that tells you this is an EV, it has all the same stuff, buttons etc. you'd find on any other Toyota hybrid. It just runs out off a battery and no dino juice. I have come to appreciate this the more and more.

(I have been eyeing the VW iD Buzz for a while now but everything I've been hearing from the iD series have been really off-putting 😞 )

@flaki the iD Buzz has a nice branding to make it appealing but I’ll be staying away from VW as an EV manufacturer in the foreseeable future.

If anything I’d look at Kia EV vans, though in an ideal world I’d be able to go wherever I need by bicycle and public transport 😄

@thibaultamartin yeah I'm with you on that one. Moving out of the city + getting dogs was the two big things that pushed me to getting a car in the first place.

(and yeah I've been looking at the new Kia PV5 that looks very promising https://electrek.co/2025/08/13/kias-first-electric-van-unboxed-ready-to-take-on-the-world/ - been looking for an electric van so that we could travel more in Europe to visit friends and family more easily/comfortably and could stay longer without having to spend exorbitant amounts of money on hotels and airbnbs)

Kia's first electric van 'unboxed' and ready to take on the world

The PV5, Kia’s first electric van, was “unboxed” after arriving in parts of Europe this week. After opening pre-orders in...
