Overcoming Blockers #FinishOrFrogAlong Q&A

To be honest, I’m not all that good at overcoming my blockers which is why I have such a long WIP list 👻 but here are a few things I do.

(1) Track my projects - I keep a list of my WIPs and their locations. I review that list every so often (a minimum of once a year, before Finish Or Frog Along!) which helps prompt my memory and decide whether I want to pick one up again or frog it or just let it keep hibernating. (1/4)

(2) Set smaller goals or intentions. This year I set Fiber Goals, like 5 minutes a day of Fiber Arts, finish some hexiflats, and make at least one washcloth for my dad. I also set some targets that are “partway” to prompt progress, like “at least one repeat of this shawl.” That way it doesn’t feel like I have to finish the whole thing right away or it’s a failure… (2/4)

(3) For spinning projects, setting an intention of what to do with the yarn. Now that I’ve decided to make at least one hexiflat for each spinning project, it feels a lot less like I’m just making yarn I’m never going to use. I’m making a keepsake that will become a part of a permanent memory… (3/4)

(4) For some projects, imagining the pleasure and happiness of the intended gift recipient. I really can power through a project if I’m properly motivated by how I think it will be received and an impending deadline. Although once the deadline has passed if I’m not done and the urgency recedes this project usually returns to the WIP pile… (4/4)
