My Mother sure had green thumbs. This photo of the garden was taken before my parents shifted to a retirement village. It was a corner block with no fences, and no back yard, so the beauty of that huge garden could be seen on two street frontages.

Everyone loved her gardens. She was always working out there, all day every day, and people would often stop to chat. She got to know so many people in the neighbourhood.

On the day of her funeral, on the way home from the cemetery, my brothers and I decided to stop at their old house and have a look at the garden which the new owners had maintained.

Lots of other people had the same idea, and we all sort of came together for one last look at that magnificent garden.

@LifeTimeCooking @Broadfork The classic 50s pairing of jacaranda and flame tree is so lovely in that picture. I love that the new owners are maintaining it.

@kate @Broadfork The new owners were champion rose growers! They loved to garden too, and only made one change to the garden - clearing one area to grow their award winning roses. Such beautiful people.
