This whole concept of "why people vote against their interest" is nonsense, of course.
They most definitely voted for their interest.
Sadly for them, they thought it would only hurt others.
Sadly for the rest of us, their interest was unsavory and grotesque and ignorant and racist and sexist and hateful.
I got no patience for "I didn't vote for this."
Of course you did, sugar. And you knew what you were voting for. You said what you were voting for.

Conservatism is the illogical and irrational fear that somewhere, some how, some one they feel is inferior to them... is being treated equally.
It's that simple... and it covers every act of hate, intolerance and bigotry they vote for.
"I voted for Putin's #brexshit to fuck up other people's lives.
"I didn't realise I'd be fucking up my own life as well.
"But it's a price well worth paying for getting to fuck up other people's lives."
Some racist motherfucker voting for a conservative because of the racism is not voting for his own interests.
"Interest" in the political sense means not something you're interested in, but something that benefits you. Think "in their own best interest".
The racist motherfucker isn't wealthy.
The conservative is working for the interests of the wealthy.
The motherfucker is fooled into voting for the interests of the wealthy (i.e. not himself) by the racism ploy.
That's what racism is about. Not anyone's interests (everybody is better off in a non-racist society). It's about tricking people into giving power to their own adversaries.
People aren't born racist. They are made that way by a societal order that needs to keep them in check.
