In California widespread soaking rain is likely along North Coast and northern Mountains (plus northern Sierra), with at least a modest chance of showers as far south as SF Bay Area/Sacramento region (though could still stay dry here). Similar in southern OR. [2/4] #CAwx#ORwx

This rain will help substantially tamping down fire risk in OR & NW CA, though some existing fires in heavy timber will likely continue burning. No rain is expected in Central/Southern CA for foreseeable future, so this will not affect fire season down south. [3/4] #CAwx#ORwx

By mid-September, warmer & drier weather will likely return (especially in CA) as ridging rebuilds. Still, given extraordinary amount of recent lightning & subsequent fires in recent days, we are lucky that no major dry wind event is in forecast. [4/4] #CAwx#ORwx#WAwx
