Not at all. I've done it over the past few months. I'm still alive and not in a cave.

It did take effort. But look, seriously, you can do this. Anyone can do this and remain on the internet, still communicate. Take it seriously, build a process. Take the steps to drop each service or minimize exposure. Perhaps you cannot get there 100% but 95% is something.

We owe it to ourselves to make the effort.

@dennyhenke @lackattack @gcluley only if you're doing it superficially. because they're not just "services". they run practically all the infrastructure, devices, operating systems. and even if you may not use them directly, you're likely only one level removed from them ("Oh, I use a Samsung phone!" which also runs Google's Android, etc). but yeah, you can try...

Honestly, your reply seems like a simplification that ignores actual, readily available and meaningful options. It's only superficial if you don't want to make the effort. I do agree that it's difficult if stuck on Android.

- Other hardware can be used without apps by Google, Apple, Microsoft. That's not a superficial change.
- Use GNU/Linux on desktop/laptop
- Use Signal for messaging
- Use other services for email: Tuta, Proton, Mailbox
