Under The Plume
Even though the eruption is 100km (62mi) away, the vog plume has been windblown in our direction all day
Although the sun is shining, the combination of toxic gases in the air has changed its light to sickly orange, and the clouds are strange and unusual
The steam from the #volcano is mixed with sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide and many others. These filter the sunlight to produce otherworldly effects.

Sunset behind a mountain range with glaciers dropping to ground level. The foreground is indistinct brown pasture land. The sky is filled with darkening orange cloud with some lighter patches showing through which would usually, at this time of night, be darkening blue but instead are shades of yellow and grey. It's strangely beautiful.

A colour shot of the sun in an orange grey sky. The clouds have separated into layers, the lower ones are brownish water vapour, above that are the orange clouds and the sun is top centre, casting sunbeams through the murk.

Another colour photo, this time looking away from the sun. The sky is filled with odd grey clouds, lit from above. Between them, a fine blue misty veil is visible against the clear sky. The base of the shot is a range of mountains, one of which is Herðubreið.

A colour photo of a sky filled with greyish orange clouds. There's a range of mountains at the bottom of the shot. The sun is shining through the cloud, producing a strange orange light. There are sunbeams across the clouds but even these are slightly unfamiliar.
