Is there a guide somewhere on how to properly upload a music album to the Internet Archive? I've read about the basic stuff but I'd like to also add more stuff besides the music and cover: a scan of the booklet/back/spine as well as stuff like CUE/TOC files. Basically everything that's needed to preserve it entirely.

@gabrielesvelto@mas.to just upload everything at once normally, like you would anything else. the site will recognize the audio files and cover art then use those for the player, and everything else you upload will be available to download from the same page without interfering with anything. there's nothing more than the basic stuff, no special requirements or protocols or what have you

I've seen albums uploaded with no ID3 tags in the audio and the player still worked fine, but having those tags is preferable of course

I uploaded my own album like this and it chose the wrong image to display as the cover, but there is no way to select the cover (that I'm aware of) so I'm guessing it just picks the highest resolution image for it. I never bothered trying to fix it though because what it chose was just the uncropped version of the cover, but if that happens to you, send an email to the team and they should be able to sort it out, and if possible, give you what you need to know to prevent such an error from happening again

@dale to also upload the contents of an album? I was under the impression that it was only for metadata as I'm using it to retrieve the track titles & disc information from there.

@gabrielesvelto @dale Just metadata on Musicbrainz. Pretty cool project to upload to archive.org, definitely curious what you find.

@yoasif @dale I've got some old stuff that's not around anymore from small bands, but also old anime and videogame OSTs. Some of this stuff can be found around, but only as MP3s or on streaming services (which offer them as "remastered" because not touching a piece of art that is 40 years old is just too much for them)
