found the relevant #FirefoxMobile#Fennec#FennecFdroid bug:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1986096

I'm tired. very tired. I do not want to have to disable my fricking ad blocker to figure this out.

@deutrino I think I've run into this, but it's hard to tell because most of the time my issue is Wireguard being fucky with DNS. I also don't usually keep Fennec hanging around in the background, so idk.

@faoluin hmm, I am also on a permanent Wireguard connection, but all handled by my router...

@deutrino I'm pretty sure it's something with my phone. I recently installed Graphene on a new phone and I've noticed that every time I switch networks (wifi and/or cell) I have to restart (toggle off and back on) the VPN connection through the system settings.

@Stomata there must be some other piece of the puzzle besides just Fenix-derived browser plus Ublock Origin.

I'm also on Android 12 and another person in the bug report mentioned Android 13...

lol, I installed #Ironfox (new Android browser project) and got bit by the bug right out of the gate, on Ironfox's own What's New page.

disabled Ublock Origin and the page loaded immediately.

this doesn't bode well for my peace of mind while browsing on mobile...

@deutrino@mstdn.io The trick to a happ(y|ier) life is to use your phone as little as possible. Its a terrible ecosystem, and a terrible interface. "smart" phones were a mistake.
