Ok, so there’s like a stock trope that an abandoned building will have bird shit in it. This has been on my mind because #sfba weather has been lovely this week and I’ve left my patio doors open for the past, like, five days.

Every once in a while I have a little spike of anxiety that maybe I shouldn’t do that because a bird will wander in and, you know, shit. How does a bird distinguish between “this place is abandoned, I can shit in here” and “this place is inhabited, the owner is just downstairs all the time”? That’s asking for a lot of thought on the part of birds, of literal bird brains.
