Useful tips on creating an unlimited PTO policy. I used to think these were more accounting hacks than real benefits - but I've changed my mind over time. #Startupshttps://werd.io/implementing-an-unlimited-pto-policy/

@ben I’ve been lucky to have that policy for my last 11 years of employment. And each of those years I’ve taken between 4 and 6 weeks of PTO.

The first several years I did have a lot of internal guilt and mild shame when taking that much (yay capitalism). But I did adjust and took advantage of my mild OCD to force myself into taking it. The one trick that helped me was planning at least one three day weekend every month and “book” them at the start of the year so that they were just like statutory holidays.

I also would plan ~ one full week off every quarter or so. That alleviated the guilt part because it made sure I was taking all that time spread throughout the year instead of trying to ram it all together.

Knowing when most of my PTO would be at the start of the year made planning work projects around it much easier. If my PTO was on the calendar before a deadline was, the deadline always lost and had to be shifted.

@ben I’ve been a fan of a mandatory minimum of 12 days a year of leave with no upper cap. Ideally should probably be minimum 24 days… like 2 per month in the company… easy to calculate and all.
