I want 2 major changes in the eBook world:

1. I want someone to sell a device with hardware & software as good as the Kobo Libra Colour that isn't coupled to a single bookstore
2. I want it to be come normal for authors - ESPECIALLY self published authors - to sell their their books directly instead of just handing them over to Amazon.

Amazon will NEVER stop fucking authors over, & they'll never improve the 💩 software on the Kindle devices if we don't give them a reason to.

@masukomi Boox have been selling such devices for a couple of years (running Android: install your own ereader app), although hacking your way through their overgrown jungle of a product range takes some skull sweat. (And because they're Chinese you can expect the prices to shoot up due to Trump tariffs, if you're in the USA.)

@cstross someone linked me to one of their e-readers. I thought that they only made general purpose android devices.

Someone else pointed to the https://mytolino.de/ (germany only) which seems like a Kobo Libra Colour with different branding & not locked down to a single store.

I think we need more products like Tolino where folks can go to a site and be clearly shown an eReader and not 1 random item in lineup of android tablets.

@cstross The problem with Boox's thing is that you're going to have Kindle software reading experience for books from Amazon, and Kobo software reading experience for Kobo and B&N for B&N and like "where the eff is that button" depends on who you bought the book from. 🤦‍♀️
