I upgraded to a Pixel 10 Pro because the promos made it super cheap for me—and honestly, Pixelsnap (Qi2/MagSafe) without a case is the only “new feature” I care about.

I disable all the AI features I can on my Google Account, so none of that new stuff interests me, but there *are* a handful of new things I’ve noticed but seen literally nobody mention in “reviews” or sales pages. I’ll compile them here in this thread for anyone interested.

@cassidy what made you go with the Pro compared to the regular Pixel 10? We're gonna order ours this weekend while the same sale is still on

@cassidy Thank you for your report!

Are you happy with the colors the camera produces? Are they as washed out as they are on the Pixel 9?

@lauteshirn I didn't find that it washed things out in my experience in the first place, but as I mention later in the thread, there is a big improvement in consistency between the preview and the captured image for me.

Adaptive Tone is here to adapt the display color temperature to the ambient light! A long-time iPhone feature (branded as True Tone), Google previously shipped this as Ambient EQ on Pixel 4, Nest Hub displays, and Pixel Tablet—but no other Pixel phones since they slimmed up the display bezels. Apparently it is implemented with the under-display ambient light sensor with Pixel 10 Pro (not sure about the base Pixel 10).

Screen Saver is basically the Pixel Tablet’s Hub Mode meets the iPhone’s Standby. You can choose what your Pixel shows while charging, including a photo album, home controls, or a couple of clocks with date and weather options. With the option to limit it to wireless charging and while your phone is upright, it can behave a lot like Standby.

Portrait Mode gains live preview in the viewfinder! This is likely due to the improved imaging processor in Tensor G5. The viewfinder and camera app overall just seem really nice, with dynamic range and colors looking much closer to both real life and the resulting captures to me.

Portrait Mode itself also just seems WAY better at nailing the cutout compared to previous Pixel phones. Hard for me to show right now because I’ve just been testing it on my kids, whose photos I don’t publicly share.

The Pixel 10 Pro tele lens has a MUCH closer minimum focal distance; something like a foot versus several feet on the Pixel 9 Pro. This is CLUTCH for getting nice, close-up shots with even more natural background lens blur and dramatic focus. This makes the tele lens feel sooooo much better and gives a ton more flexibility in how you use the pro camera features.

Here is a great example of why I love the new tele lens! With an ultrawide macro, this shot would be super distorted and ruin the look. With the main (wide) lens, I couldn't get as close (so I'd have to crop/digital zoom). With the tele, I throw the focus to the minimum distance and then get this iconic shot. 😁

Okay the 2× zoom on the main lens is pretty satisfying actually. The other photo is the ultrawide macro (lol)

@cassidy Planning to buy a P10 Pro, too, so looking forward to your findings. Not really concerned about integrated AI since I will instantly reflash it with GrapheneOS.

@cassidy I didn't find the deals to be that appealing to me coming from a Pixel 9 Pro. Both Best Buy and Google weren't offering enough for me. Was there another one?

@cassidy Trading in my 9 Pro XL has the cost of a 10 Pro at like <$100 and that’s just because I want more storage. It’s really an insane deal
