Marriott's website absolutely refuses to let me log in -- multiple browsers get same result -- apparently because I use a VPN and block trackers.

Hyatt's website is happy to let me in.

One guess which company just got a reservation from me.

@dangillmor I got a parking fine in the UK on the day I was taking the ferry back to my country.

Back home I could only pay the fine with a VPN set to a UK server 🙄

(I got the fine because none of the payment methods¹ at the parking site worked and cash could not be used.)

Same experience here with some shops. They just won't work when trackers are blocked. But that's their problem, if they've decided they can't do business without mining my data for a fraction of a cent then I won't shop there anymore. Their loss, not mine. Do they realize this practice actually costs them some customers, even though consultant probably sold it as 'free extra cash? #pihole

@dangillmor this sort of thing is somewhat common. I keep one browser with all defenses off to deal with this on an as needed basis.

I’ve had couple of experiences like that. My workaround has been to use private window, do what I need to, and log out.

Another example today. I can no longer log into #Costco without using a Private Window in #firefox. To be clear, I think this works because I do not load my add-ons, eg, #PrivacyBadger and #uBlockOrigin when I use a private window.

Many websites require you to accept trackers.

Some block me and say it's because I block advertising (which I don't), on testing, its almost always because they require trackers.
