Microsoft announces that soon Microsoft Word for Windows will save documents to the cloud automatically by default (OneDrive "or your preferred cloud destination"). This could prevent data loss, but you can also disable autosave if you don't want it active. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/microsoft365insiderblog/save-new-files-automatically-to-the-cloud-in-word-for-windows/4445216#Word#MSWord#Windows#MSOffice#OneDrive#Cloud

@bradlinder Simple solution: do not use MS Word at all, which is easier said than done, unfortunately.

@bradlinder I can't stand using Microsoft products. Unfortunately I have to for work. At least their crap is only on the work laptop.

I'm glad that I moved to a GNU/Linux desktop and LibreOffice a long time ago

@bradlinder Tyranny of the default. So many people are going to unwittingly have their private data stores of MS servers, where they'll no doubt get slurped up into some LLM and suddenly everyone's "passwords spreadsheet" will take on a whole knew level of risk.
