hate American cop procedural, law & order and all that copaganda yet am kinda obsessed with british crime mysteries. Sherlock Holmes is my first love, but my most recent obsession is Father Brown ―based on the character created by GK Chesterton, who was a character by himself.

been wondering why. why do i hate gringo cop shows but not brit crime mysteries? cuz though Miss Marple, Poirot, Father Brown, even Sherlock aren’t cops by employment, they’re still cops. or am i wrong?

@blogdiva Things I like about the best BBC murder:

1) Way less implicit race hatred.
2) Many of the cops -- not all of them -- do not routinely break the law.
3) Most graphic violence happens off-screen.
4) The actors aren't Hollywood beauties, they're asymmetrically faced, and lovely.
5) Far less violence against women.
6) Fewer episodes per season give more time for writing and prep.

The *very* best, of course is PBS/BBC/Masterpiece. And the super ultra-best is, of course, "Endeavour".

@blogdiva if you want an investigator who is nicer, look up the old Brother Cadfael series. Adorable Derek Jacobi (tho still an old white dude) plays a monk Sherlock who solves a surprisingly frequent number of crimes and murders near the monastery.

@steggy and I binged the whole series….when it was only on VHS…over the course of months.

@blogdiva Same. I am obsessed with British crime mysteries and just started watching one that is on Season 4 that I didn't know about... Professor T.

"Professor Jasper Tempest, a genius Cambridge University criminologist with OCD, unwittingly becomes an advisor to the police when he is caught up in a mysterious crime at the university. However, not all his new colleagues are enthusiastic"

I feel like I have let my PBS, BritBox and Acorn subscriptions down... lol.

I also really like Grantchester.
