Is anyone thinking through the cybersecurity implications of Trump insinuating himself into Intel's business? Many years ago people flagged Intel's Management Engine as a security threat:

Concerns about this kind of faded, but if governments have a stake in chipmakers, that's a pretty easy path towards surveillance, yeah?

@rwg Perhaps ask yourself this question: if the People's Republic of China had bought into a device maker at this level, would their devices become banned in the United States?

@rwg yes! see also "supply chain security" misused to mean "is built on a google/microsoft server" as if the build environment is not also a dependency

@rwg On the other hand, it sounds like a modern approach to nationalization, to dictating the terms - if he goes after other private companies. So far, it's Intel and TikTok.
