@cstross They are possibly hoping that Bolton has a copy of something that was classified after he took the copy home (so he could work on something during the evening), and that the copy fell behind a desk or was otherwise misplaced. It can be completely inconsequential but that doesn't matter if the goal is to create a distraction or get rid of a critic.

I'm really torn here @cstross as John Bolton has been around since Dubya's boogaloo in the Iraqui desert. He's a #neocon dirt bag who lied to the public when it was convinent to make Haliburton a shit-ton of federal contract moneys back in the 00's. It's only in the past election cycle that Bolton grew a spine.
On the one hand, we can't afford to loose the few R's willing to stand up to Trump's (ruZZian) blueprint for America. On the other hand, he's no patriot and just as much of a war profiteer as Dick Cheney or Donald Rumsfeld. Best case scenario, Bolton outs a bunch of the Republicans Trump is holding in place with kompromat. The entire party has been in lock step with ruZZia since the DNC/RNC hacks 7 years ago.

True, but the hypocrisy and self-contradiction is interesting. #DonaldJTrump went after Bolton's book on the grounds that every conversation with the POTUS is classified, but this is the same Trump that says that he can declassify things in his head and has declassified a bigly amount of stuff that way so it's alright to hoard documents.
I wonder whether the current bunch are so stupid that they've never cracked a history book to see what happens to them soon.

Obama was out of office and out of terms before Trump ran: he's probably not a direct target (unless racism trumps sanity, which is not impossible).
Clinton and Harris are more likely targets.

I actually would think that he would go after Obama first. He’s a black male and we cannot forget the underlying rage that many Americans quite rightfully feel by his betrayal of them to Wall Street in 2008.
He invested so much into vilifying Clinton, so it seems tempting for his supporters, it’s great optics.
It is 2025 crowd and that lot that I think will go after officials actively opposing them.
