Newsom JUST signed the California redistricting plan into law, to go up for vote in a special election this November. Mailers opposing this crucial anti-fascist plan under a "preserve our independent system" banner are ALREADY arriving at people's homes! Be prepared for fascist forces to throw a fortune into the effort to prevent California from countering Texas' redistricting travesty! VOTE YES ON THE CALIFORNIA REDISTRICTING PLAN.

"A brigante, brigante e mezzo"
(loose translation: "to fight one scoundrel, you need one and a half scoundrels)

This is what you need to fight a fascist according to Sandro Pertini (former President of Italy, the last who actively fought as an anti-fascist partisan in WW2).

@lauren As soon as a heard him say it would require a vote from the population for the redistricting measure to pass I simply lost faith in this maneuver working. Too much nuance for the regular person who does not pay much attention to politics for them to vote for it I think. They should have done what Texas did and redistrict without voter input in order to counteract fast. Not sure if it would have been legal in California to do so.
@LePetitChatNoir No, this requires a vote due to the way the original commission was set up. However, because this is a special election, it will tend to mostly draw voters interested in the issue, and those interested in this change are likely to be far more motivated than those only interested in the status quo.
@lauren
Anti-redistricting stuff is also showing up on Nextdoor, although the moderators seem to be taking them down as being inappropriate political discussion.

I've noticed on Nextdoor that posts and comments that aren't about lost cats or people stealing fruit off trees in the front yard skew conservative/reactionary even though we're in a Democratic-majority area (during Covid, this was especially true). Lots of "Newscum"-style commentary. The exception is when NIMBYSm enters the chat, where there's a sprinkling of leftists who think that increasing supply somehow increases prices. But I digress.

(Yeah, I know I shouldn't waste time reading these things, but I'm amused by the idiocy of some of the people living near me, and it beats watching reality shows)

@lauren I do hope we don’t have a repeat of the Kamala Harris non voting happen again. We would not be in these circumstances if people had thought further ahead to what Trump and the Repucans would do to Americans and America. Time to hold noses (if that’s the feeling about this) and vote to protect America and democracy. It’s a temporary redisricting. America is on fire. And can and will get much worse if Trump and the Republicans are not stopped. #USPol
