Y'know what is something that I find surprisingly difficult to find in Mexico City?

Corn tortilla chips!

There's convenience stores on every street corner. In America, those shops would be like 20% tortilla chips. That has not been my finding here in Mexico City.

Is that because of American corn subsidies or something? Or are tortilla chips just not a real Mexican thing?

@Steve

I had four years of Spanish in high school 30 years ago. So,,, yeah, needs some work.

So far, I can communicate with store clerks as long as nothing unexpected happens. I've found a bunch of English/Spanish meetup groups, so I'm planning on going to those to get some practice.

Right now, I've got the official welcome diarrhea, so I'm gonna stick by the toilet until that's better. I haven't made it to the groups yet. (This is why I was looking for corn chips; gentle on the tum)

@MegaMichelle For comprehension, there's no better way than immersion. Listen to the radio, read newspapers, etc. In particular, go to a bookstore and look for translations of books you've already read, because that gives you a lot of context for unfamiliar vocab. And then, talk to people as much as you can.

For Moctezuma's revenge... there's not a lot you can do but let it take its course and wait for your body to adjust.
