An additional thought here is, that arming up to face the threat of Russia contains a flipside not often discussed:

Putting a lot of money on weapons can cause money put on wellfare setvices to decline.
When wellfare declines, Russia has a new front of attack: Farright propaganda that can flip the table and result in a pro-russian administration!

This usually happens because patriotic people tend to lean right-wing. It is of paramount importance that #left-wing #patriotism makes noise here!
