This #FediCon talk from @benpate is probably my favorite out of the bunch. They’re all really good, but so many of his points hit home for how I feel about the #Fediverse and what we could do together.

@deadsuperhero @benpate plus i don't trust reiver, he actually called himself " a pioneer in the online advertising space, having created the world's first online advertising network." And never apologized for it. That shit destroyed human interaction by commodifying every aspect of it and created the problems we have today as a result.
@ailurocrat @benpate I personally know Charles, met him in person, and like him a lot. I think he has done a lot of fantastic work since those days working for the forces of good. Some of his positions differ from my own, but I don’t think of him as a bad person.
It’s hard to square what the mindset was at the time of an ad network being developed in the 90’s. I doubt anyone was intentionally plotting evil with a whiteboard, or had a coherent picture of where this all would end up.
As far as apologies or reflections on the subject, I’ll let @reiver speak for himself.
