One advantage to the self archiving approach that was pointed out in IIPC Slack recently is that it seems a bit more GDPR friendly to not archive other people's content without their consent?

@edsu @dpc_chat thanks for reminding me Ed, I'd lost track of that! Does the behaviour still need adjustment?

And yes, I agree, self-archiving is the consent is much clearer and the platform is responsible for managing the boundary of consent.
