Rewriting the Windows section of Kitten’s installation instructions.

Update: it’s live now.

Install

Latest version released last Tuesday at 5:28 PM Europe/Dublin (view source).

Tabs: Linux, macOS, Windows (selected)

Tab contents of Windows tab:

Sorry, no.

Microsoft is complicit in Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people. (link)

Small Technology Foundation (link) stands in solidarity with the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement (link).

Callout with exclamation mark: Windows is an ad-infested and surveillance-ridden dumpster fire of an operating system and, alongside supporting genocide, you are putting both yourself and others at risk by using it.

@aral My games also lack official Windows builds, being available on Android, GNU/Linux, and soon FreeBSD. My official reason for this is Microsoft Smart Screen, but i now have better reasons to avoid everything that comes from Microsoft

@aral Seems fair to mention, but now it looks like Apple is a perfect company with no downsides, shouldnt they also get a note?

@atjn Just because every trillion-dollar corporation is not exactly the same doesn’t mean that any trillion-dollar corporation is your friend.

Apple is far from perfect but they’re still supported so that’s their note.

@aral out of ignorance: isn't Apple as involved as Microsoft with Israel

(without mentioning that e.g. Apple allowed for the Chinese Government to unleash a huge mass surveillance on Uyghurs through their phone and Tim Cook has just gave Trump a golden plate)

The comment is not for controversy, just to understand the rationale on boycotting one but not the other.

@alx I don’t see them listed on Francesca Albanese’s list https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/7/1/un-report-lists-companies-complicit-in-israels-genocide-who-are-they or on the BDS web site, so, with the general caveat that no trillion-dollar corporation is your friend and there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism, it doesn’t appear that they are involved in the way those other companies are.

Here’s more information from the BDS movement on Microsoft (this is what the first link on the site leads to):
