I don't know, but from what I've heard, the whole point of Bonfire is to be able to combine extensions to build the flexible Fedi app your group needs, so in theory, with sufficient development it "should" be able to do what's needed, as long as the right extensions are sufficiently developed.

Personally I'm watching it with interest, with the view to possibly use it in the future to create a network for local sports teams, ie sharing matches, photos etc.

It's not a certainty right now, but if we do, we'd be donating regularly towards Bonfire's development, and hopefully other communities/businesses will do the same.

True. A student-centric fediverse app could be assembled from Bonfire components without their direct involvement.

But Bonfire also has official favours, customised for common use cases;

So even if it began as an independent project, I think it would sense for it to become one of these. Why not involve them in the co-design from the start?
