New Zealand nurseries and gardeners empty 350 million plastic plant pots every year, a staggering number for a young University of Canterbury student to swallow.

“The whole point of planting a tree is to be good to the environment,” Enivo Pots founder Elisa Harley, 18, said.

“Planting trees shouldn’t create plastic waste.”
