A panel of experts tasked by Gov. Kathy Hochul to evaluate the needs of New York’s aging population has recommended that the state permanently fund and oversee guardianship services. The governor won’t say whether she will.

@ProPublica Well, it's not her call, ultimately. New York, like all States, has (as required by the US Constitution), a 'republican' form of government, meaning a triad of co-equal branches with over-lapping but different powers. In that scheme (again, REQUIRED by the Constitution), the chief executive does not have the power of legislation; only the state legislature does. If they choose to do this, then it's done, and it doesn't matter if the Governor disagrees. Same for funding it.
