There are, as I know well, strong currents of all of that in the Catholic church and courageous people moved by their Catholic faith to defend human rights and democracy.
But those people have not had the upper hand in US Catholicism under the current bishops, many of them appointed by Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI.

As a body, the US Catholic bishops worked feverishly to stack the court with the right-wing Catholic cabal now controlling it, and are very happy with what they have gotten, especially after Roe v. Wade was knocked down. I refuse to take anything seriously that almost any Catholic bishop in the US says now about democracy or human rights.
