Those who don’t know hist shouldn’t comment on it. Those who strip words from context are firing intel blanks, hoping others will believe they’ve smth meaningful to say.
The NYT has nothing left to say except repeating dictated talking pts of its owners, woven into cheap polemics & tirades abt an enemy supposedly living in the neighborhood—meant to spread fear, envy & helplessness where honesty, hope, compassion & community are needed. Mahmood Mamdani has recognized this & offers a positive msg, while the true enemies of our country sit in the WH.
The film Don’t Look Up isn’t fiction—we’re watching it unfold in real time, & the suffering is real. But we can & must do everything to make the midterms send a v strong signal. We need Mamdanis in every city, we need an Obama who can mobilize, we need ppl who have the courage to stand up.
Language is a virus, as Laurie Anderson aptly said. Go out into the streets & talk to 1 another. Share the stories of your neighbors & kids—these are the real stories happening in this country. Trust your own eyes. What you see on the street is real. ICE cruelty is real. Fascists marching thru Amer streets & running ppl over w/ cars—that’s real. Trump is real.
What’s real can be changed. What’s already taken root in your mind can’t. “The plague” is only a term, but when the harm done to you, your fam & neighbors comes from a single src, you can say: This is like the plague. So let’s find the rat hole—so misery & suffering may finally end.
