That was a fun read! Fond memories of all the crashes pre OS X.

I've been using app shortcuts in a bottom dock on my two GNU/Linux installs. Reading your post and thinking about it I realize I don't actually use it. I open apps with a quick search and switch using keyboard too. Going to remove that as I expect I won't miss it.
