Can any UK based woodworkers recommend a moisture meter? I'm after a simple one with pins that works.
Are the cheapest ones on ebay any good?
9v, AAA or rechargeable is a plus. I don't want to have to buy button batteries for just one thing.

You can get a Protimeter SurveyMaster with both pins and induction on eBay for a reasonable price. They typically use a 9V battery. I have an older one, and it's simple and reliable.

@keith Pins only measure surface moisture, which is somewhat useless except for veneer.
I've got a cheap capacitive one that does the job although penetration depth is not amazing.

@keith In what I tried, about 30mm, never the claimed 50. But it's enough for my purposes and a lot better than a surface reading.
@yngmar thanks, that's good enough for me. Beyond that I guess it's more about knowing the wood and how it's been dried? I'm just starting to work with untreated wood from local sawmills so I've got a lot to learn.
This year will be mostly about making wonky furniture that still looks good when it bends and cracks but I'll get some wood to dry out for use next year too.
