if Canada were smart -- which we are not -- we would go all in on recruiting massive numbers of international students once again and dump funding into higher education. how many countries are so similar to the US market which is being closed off? but instead we're drastically capping international student visas and sabotaging colleges and universities, which are currently laying off staff and closing programs across the country. 🤦‍♂️

"Science asked Canada’s three federal research councils, as well as Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada [...] about the status of their budget submissions and what, if any, cuts they had proposed. All provided largely the same response, noting that they had been asked to identify savings of up to 15% over 3 years by targeting “programs and activities that are underperforming, not core to the federal mandate, duplicative, or misaligned with government priorities.”
