Lily always goes very dark. #Duolingo

(This is a real screenshot my son sent me.)

This is a real screenshot of a Duolingo exercise, where the character Lily asks the user to translate from Danish to English the phrase “Had består en bombe af?” The English translation is “What does a bomb consist of?”

Don’t get me wrong—I really love the darkness in Lily, but wow. I think they’re using generative AI for this, and it’s not a good look.

@ramsey yeah Duolingo promoted their use of AI two years ago, that's why I stopped my subscription :<

@ramsey they laid off all of their contract workers which were responsible for a lot of the educational material in favor of Gen AI slob: https://fortune.com/article/duolingo-ceo-says-getting-rid-of-contract-employees-replacing-them-with-ai/

@ramsey ah, that's a good point. I put the company on my "no longer support" list and never looked into any headlines after April 30th. bongo_cat
