> Age verification: what’s the harm?

If you have not read @girlonthenet's latest post about the #OnlineSafetyAct , that's your evening sorted.

(G has been on the receiving end of Parliament's attempt at defining "pornographic content", so writes from her own direct experience.)

@neil really is!! Like walking into an oasis of (eloquent) reason after arguing about this exact same issue with overly eager SWERFs on Reddit to no avail.

@girlonthenet Thank you so very much for taking the time to write this article and graciously sharing with the world! My god... I was thoroughly informed, brilliantly entertained and found plenty of points that I see no one else make!

@neil exactly! Well, what can I say... many really don't heed the warnings until the shit hits the fan. This will be incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to undo now and residents of other countries should be paying attention before similar sets of laws get passed literally everywhere. Youtube's newest age-verification move in thr US is most definitely them putting feelers out for passing KOSA...
@neil @girlonthenet
if you've been keeping up on the online harms act for the last 2 years or so by reading neil, GotN, etc you might be wondering if you need to read yet another blog, but this is still well worth your time.

now the shit has fully hit the fan, it's really good on the gallons of good faith still being lavished on the UK government and big tech: but surely we're a liberal democracy; but surely the government is pro-business; but surely tech businesses wouldn't sell, share, leak, lose, misuse my sensitive data; but surely peter kyle just wants to protect children. come the fuck on.

So yes this is well worth your time.
