My favorite flower spotted today is Liatris punctata also known as the Dotted Gayfeather.

What a fantastic name for this showy, sun loving beauty.

It's used in prairie restoration, including post-fire recovery and land healing from mining, because of its draught tolerance and sun soaking ways.

Elk, deer and pronghorn think it's tasty and lepidopteran lap up its nectar, including the rare Pawnee montane skipper.

Oh and I should mention that I saw this on a walk with my friend Stephen and his five year old son Charlie. We played a game where before we set off we guessed how many different wildflowers we'd see.

Charlie guessed 10.
I guessed 20.
Stephen guessed 33.

By the end we had found twenty six!

We were playing the Price is Right rules. So I won. 😎
