Met a lady yesterday who said she hesitated to get farm share not because of cost or accessibility but because she was afraid of ending up with food she didn't want.

I told her I take the food I don't want to the food pantry.

She was like HMMMMM...

Thinking about signing up for a CSA but want to learn more about the idea before you commit? Read on.

For over 40 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer.

Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a "membership" or a "subscription") and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season.

I super encourage folks to look into farm share (esp organic, regen farming):

1) they're all different, mine only has 2 "must takes" & the rest you get to pick

2) I get a double share and go straight from pickup to the food pantry because no way I got room for all that extra food in my fridge

  1. it's good for you, for farmers, for community resilience, for the soil (which is future food resilience), for your neighbors (when you share w/the food pantry, which are super under attack from the Trump administration), and takes money way from industrial ag.

    (also: farm fresh eggs, js)

It's great to grow your own food(you can share the excess with the food pantry!)but even better to support community food resilience.

(Aside on cost: grocery stores & industrial ag jacked up prices under cover of "inflation"鈥攜ou think they might do that again with "tariffs"? Yeah, me too)

(I watched grocery store prices rise while my farm share costs stayed flat for the last 3 years, js)

Find farm shares (and food co-ops too!) near you: https://www.localharvest.org/csa/
